Common Roof Problems
Even the best roofs will develop problems sooner or later. The sooner home owners learn to spot roof problems, the sooner they can get them fixed by the qualified roofing professionals at Priority One Roofing.
The basic problem for every roof is weather and aging and even Priority One Roofing cant doing anything about those. But we can help you learn the signs of potential roof problems.
- Curled Shingles One of the first signs to appear and one of the easiest to spot. High winds and repeated cycles of freezing and thawing will cause the corners of shingles to curl up. It is far easier for rain and snow to get underneath a curled shingle and into your home.
- Cracked Shingles Exposure to the elements, foot traffic on the roof and wind-blown debris can all cause your roof shingles to crack. Once cracked, a shingle will lift more easily in high winds and water will get under the tile.
- Buckled Shingles Shingles with raised ridges across them will wear out before the other shingles on your roof. Ridges on shingles are usually caused by poorly installed roof decks.
- Worn shingles Asphalt shingles are coated with a layer of ceramic granules that help protect the asphalt layers below. If the granules are worn away, the layers below have no protection and will deteriorate faster.
- Missing Shingles Shingles may blow off your roof. A missing shingle leaves your roof exposed and can quickly lead to leaks and damage inside your home.
- Ice Damming Improper ventilation of your roof can casue snow that melts higher up on your roof to re-freeze when it gets over the edges of your roof. Ice dams can force ice and moisture under your tiles and into your home.
- Mold, Fungus or Algae A build up of organic material on your roof will retain moisture longer, giving it more chance to enter your home.
